I was looking through my phone, and I found this picture. For Easter I was going to make my Mom's Mustard Sauce for the Honey Baked Ham we were getting. The mustard sauce with that ham is a what makes Easter in our house. Now realize I had been eating this amazing concoction for YEARS before I actually saw the recipe. And yes it does turn my stomach a little to see what is in it. I would doubt that those ingredients combined together could make anything appetizing. But don't fool yourself they make a mystical concoction that makes an anti ham person beg for pork and a dinner roll. I made it a few times when I was little, and the "mix together + cook until thick" is under playing the recipe. If I remember correctly you melt the butter, then slowly add the sugar in stiring the whole time until it's dissolved, then start combining everything else in over low heat. It takes a little while, but the result is AMAZING. I thought that this recipe came out of a magazine when my Mom first got married, but now I'm thinking that it was passed down from my Grandmother in Kansas. My Mom swears it was, but it really does look like a 1960's magazine recipe. And the handwriting looks like one of my Mom's early neighbors handwriting. Hummm... the plot thickens. In any case I didn't get a chance to make it this year because I was sick on Easter, and my boyfriend and I hate ham so it looks like I will have to file this away for next year. But I do love seeing the original recipe, and how much love it's received over the years. That is a lot of celebrations this little piece of paper have made special.
