My lunch options have always been dismal. My mother was never good at packing my lunches (though she did write the best lunch box notes EVER, with the best images of her being grumpy and vacuuming at home while I was at school). And I have never been good at packing my lunches. Even when I did pack my lunches I would never eat them. So lunch has devolved into fast food doldrums, or getting so hungry that I run into the 7/11 for something. Which is sort of terrifying, I know. I've been trying to keep my desk stuffed with good healthy snacks so that I don't get too hungry and just grab the first lunch that passes in front of me. But with the heat of summer my patience/ will power goes COMPLETELY out the window. Planning, and making the lunch the night before is really the only solution, BUT I JUST DON'T WANNA!!! Well, I probably just don't wanna because I don't have any fun options. So while thinking of this very thing I was rummaging around Facebook one day. A friend of mine started posting her pictures of the lunches she was making her toddler. They were so cute, and they looked just like really yummy homemade lunchables. Now, I seriously love lunchables, not so much for what they have in them, but I love the compartmentalized food options. And I think it goes back to when I was studying Japanese culture while eating tons and tons of bento boxes for lunch. So I did a little search on the internet and found a GREAT site on homemade, healthy lunchable like meals. And really they are all so cute after you make them how could you not eat them! Ooooo and there is a whole pin board for ideas as well !!! She even has a book on making lunches just from Trader Joe's store. Which besides Target is pretty much the only place I shop now. So I might have to check that book out. If I end up getting it I'll report back on my findings. Anything to get me excited about making my lunches would be EXTREMELY helpful. I swear when the heat of summer is over, and I start caring again about life, and things I am going to be all over making some of these.
My two favorite things together in a meme. Snape, and crafts EEEeeeEEEEEeeeEEE!!!! Now if I could just find him in the "Hey girl... " memes instead of Ryan Gosling I would be the happiest girl in the world. Though I guess he wouldn't say "Hey Girl". It would be more like "Hello Madam..." in a rather insidious tone.
I was innocently running into Michael's just for some quick dry glue. Nothing more, just minding my own busniess. And what do I run into? THE CUTEST FELT PUMPKINS YOU HAVE EVER SEEN!!! Now exactly how am I supposed to resist that? Well, as you can see I can't. So it started with the pumpkins. Then I saw the little wood owls, and a few other things. Before you know it I was fully immersed into decorating for Halloween. Yeah, I know it's August, but if they are going to put it out this early to sell. Then I am going to start decorating this early! The flowers were 50% off which is the nice thing about shopping so early. And then all of a sudden one of my holiday focal shelves was completely decorated in my head. I usually go mostly black, and green for Fall, but since I fell in love with the pumpkins I decided to go yellow, purple, and orange. Then I think I will paint up the little paper mache pumpkins I bought (not pictured) in antique rustic creme, and brown with black, and gold accent.
So here are pictures of the beginning of my project. I painted the owls a lovely eggplant color with purple glitter on their wings. I also bought a flower frog so they could stand up behind the flowers. I arranged the flowers into a bunch. Wired them together with floral wire, and then glued the stems together to reinforce them. Then assembled the felt pumpkin kit so I could see their smiling faces gleaming back at me. I'll post updates in the next few weeks as the decorations continue.
Yep, this is what it's been like this week for me. Running from Michael's, to the dollar store, to everywhere else I can find for the hint of Halloween merchandise. It just makes me so happy. And now I'm able to bear the rest of the summer heat until Fall.
The Halloween bug has bitten me. And I would like about 50 of these light fixtures in my house right now!
The last section of the Snow Whites adventures ride at Disneyland. I love the spooky trees so much. There are some other great pictures of Disneyland in this link.
burnt out on meat too, and legumes I waffle on liking then not liking. So I finally did it a week ago. I bought the frozen tilapia and stuck it in my freezer, then forced myself kicking and screaming to make it last night. I procrastinated on it so long I actually made it at 11 pm. But it was soooooo easy, and turned out sooooo amazing that this is going to be one of my new go to lunches. The reason why you see pickles next to it is I'm serving it cold, and those are sweet pickles so it gives you the feel of tuna salad without the mayo.
So all I did was throw the defrosted fish (take out of the freezer and stick in the fridge for a day don't rush the defrost you will thank me in the end), on a baking sheet with foil under it. Squeeze lime on one side, then shake some of Trader Joes 21 Seasoning Salute on it. Turn it over and do the same to the other side. Then stick another sheet of foil on top, and put it in the oven at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. At ten minutes I turn the fish over. Super easy, and super yummy!!!
